US Imposes Anti-Dumping Duties on Solar Cells from Southeast Asia

10 December 2024

New measures to protect domestic market

The US Department of Commerce announced the introduction of anti-dumping duties on solar cells imported from Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia. The rates of duties reach 271.28%, depending on the origin and manufacturer of the product.

These measures are related to the findings of an investigation, according to which Chinese companies use production facilities in Southeast Asia to bypass existing US duties. The new policy is aimed at supporting local manufacturers of solar technology and reducing dependence on imports.

The introduction of duties has caused a mixed reaction. Critics note that such actions can slow down the development of solar energy in the United States due to the rise in the cost of equipment. At the same time, supporters of the measures consider them an important step to protect American industry and create new jobs.
