Wind Farming Growth In Uzbekistan

20 March 2025

The 1 GW Bukhara wind farm, consisting of two wind farms, Bash and Dzhangeldy, was implemented with the participation of the Saudi company ACWA Power, which manages the project. Chinese companies, including China Energy Engineering Corporation, were responsible for the supply of equipment and construction. The facility includes 158 wind turbines of Chinese manufacture Envision with a capacity of 6.5 MW each.

The project is capable of generating 3.59 billion kWh of electricity per year, which is approximately 7% of the total annual electricity production in Uzbekistan.

Earlier, in December 2022, the Zarafshan wind farm with a capacity of 500 MW was commissioned in Uzbekistan. The investor in the project was Masdar from the UAE, and the construction and supply of equipment were carried out by Chinese companies, including the wind turbine manufacturer Goldwind.
In August 2022, construction of two new wind farms with a total capacity of 1.2 GW began in Uzbekistan. These projects are also being implemented with the participation of international investors and contractors.

Uzbekistan plans to increase its renewable energy capacity to 20 GW by 2030. The main players in the market are Masdar (UAE) and ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia), which are actively investing in the development of wind energy in the country.
